Josephine Update

We were discharged today. Both of us, Josey got to come home with me at only 2 days old and no NICU stay. We are very excited. She is eating very well, and latching is getting better everyday. Plenty of little messes from her and she has a very lusty cry when upset.

Nathan is taking the new addition as well as possible. There was a brief show of sibling rivalry this evening when they were both sitting in daddy's lap watching Baby Einstein (the only thing Nathan will really watch on the TV) I had given Josey another blanket cause Mike was worried she might be cold, well needless to say Nathan showed his jealous side and tried to take it from her. So I told him No and went and got his fishy blanket that I had made for him. And that made him happy. I am trying to alternate between getting the sleep I need after feedings and letting Mike hold Josey so that I can spend some time with Nathan, cause I can tell he is getting a tad bit jealous of all the attention the little bitty one is getting. Overall Nathan has been doing very well.

In the next couple of day I will do a back track to May and June and then post July stuff about Nathan. Lots of pics from June to go through. It was what I was planning to do this week but... things happen.
I will most likely make a new blog for Josephine so I will post a link to that soon. Enjoy the pics!!
Any comments or phone calls are welcome. Mike will most likely answer the phone, but we will be around.

Quick July Update! Josephine Marie has arrived!!

For anyone who didn't know or just wants a reminder, I had gone to the hospital for a OB appointment on 7/7/2007 (31 weeks 5 days) where I had told my doc that I had been having some contractions early in the morning. She checked me and found that I was 3 cm dilated so she sent me to Labor and Delivery for a 24 observation period where she gave me some meds to hopefully stop the contractions. It worked and they were able to get to steriod shots in before I was discharged again. I was sent home on modified bedrest and from there I was able to give our little girl another 3 weeks in the womb before she made her apperance.

Josephine Marie Kent was born this Monday morning (7/27/2009) at 7:57 am weighing in at 5 lbs 2 oz and 18 inches long, we were at 34 weeks and 4 days. My water broke at 5:15 am and Mike drove me to the hospital where my contractions started up around 6am. Everything progressed fast and she was born fairly quickly with no complications. She was seen by the NICU docs but they see no reason as of now to keep her in the NICU. She is breathing on her own, in an open air crib (maintaining body temp) and is nursing very very well. So far it is looking like she will be able to come with me when I am discharged on Wed (7/29/2009).

My parents had meet us at the hospital to watch Nathan while everything was going on and he was wide awake for being woke up so early and fairly well behaved while waiting. After she was born he was mildly interested touching her gently on the head and saying "baby". But then he quickly wanted to do more interesting 2 yr old things, :).

April brings rabbits and eggs

April was the month for Easter rabbits and egg hunts! We took Nathan to four Easter egg hunts not including our own at the house.

I had gotten Nathan some bunny ears and he and Mike had a fun time hoping around the house. Nathan also had a good time helping me decorate the house with easter themed window clings. We also playing easter egg hunt in the house several times, first I would hide the eggs and he would find them and then he would hide them (with help) and the help me find them. It was a lot of fun.

First we went to Charlie Daniel's Park in Mt. Juliet to take part in Nathans first real egg hunt, he seemed to have fun. I on the other hand did not, they did have the egg hunts split into groups for the little kids 2 yr olds here and 3 yrs old over there, etc. BUT they did not lay down any ground rules as far as only one parent hunts with the child and only the child picks up eggs. So it really upset me to no end to see all the crazed parents and siblings scooping up handfuls of eggs and basically picking them up before Nathan could. My one main thought the whole time was, " What rude greedy people to take a bunch of plastic eggs with cheap candy in them out of the hands of babies." But Mike who was playing photographer suggested we moved to the middle of the hunt so that it what I did. I picked Nathan up and moved to the middle, staked out a small claim of maybe 12 eggs and preceded to give the death glare at anyone who came too close. We pregnant woman can be scary when we want to be. But Nathan ended up with at least 12 eggs and he quit happly opened them up to inspect the inside and of course get the candy.

Afterward we walked around the park and looked at the various booths and then Nathan jumped in the moonwalk toys, he really really loves that!

During the beginning of the month I had joined the MOMs club in Mt. Juliet and they had an easter egg hunt in the middle of the week. So Nathan and I did that and I will say that it was a nice change from the chaos that was the first egg hunt. I also had a good time getting to know the moms in the group will the kids ran around and played on the playground after the hunt.

In the middle of the month the local March of Dimes chapter had a Preemie Picnic for all the team families walking in the Nashville walk. Nathan was one of the youngest kids there but it did not stop him from having a great time. They had a very brief easter egg hunt which was very controlled and then we had some snacks while the kids got all kinds of little toys and played with the other kids
.

The day before Easter we went to to Cheekewood with my friend Amber and her daughter. The kids had a great time doing all the different crafts that they had: Making bunny ears, flowers, etc. And they got to see an easter bunny and then we did two easter egg hunts while there. This time we were a little better prepared for the chaos that would ensue but fortunately this time it was only from the other kids. In the second egg hunt Nathan found the golden egg (with Mikes help) and got a gift certificate to the gift shop for finding it. So we went to the gift shop and Nathan picked out a CD of celtic techno music and then we went to eat a light lunch in the gardens before we went home.

On Easter Day my parents came over to our house and helped/watched Nathan hunt the eggs that Mike had hidden out in the yard. Most of them were plastic eggs with jellybeans or chocolate candies but a few had money in them, :) Then others were real eggs that we had boiled and dyed the day before, which Nathan enjoyed for all of 5 minutes. Oh well, there is always next year. But Nathan had a good time hunting the eggs and opening them of course.
Then we looked at what the Easter Bunny had brought to the family. Nathan got some chalk eggs, a toddler computer game and of course a chocolate bunny with some peeps. Mike who had the police car basket got a chocolate bunny with peeps as was the same for me, I had the dragon basket.

Later in the month we went to a Free day at the Frist Art Center. We got to do some medieval themed crafts and listen to a woodwind quartet. We also looked around at the art that they had up at that time.
